“Strategic Partnerships for Access and Discovery”

Conference Programme (Day 3) – Wednesday, 8 July 2015

Herzog August Bibliothek in Wolfenbüttel and Volkswagen Autostadt Wolfsburg
The first stop on this study tour day will be the Herzog August Bibliothek in Wolfenbüttel, where you will be given a guided tour of the library and the museum rooms. Together with numerous other collections, the books and manuscripts belonging to the library of Duke August the Younger form the core of the Wolfenbüttel research library. But the Herzog August Bibliothek is not just a library and research centre for the medieval and early modern periods, it also houses a museum that makes its history and collections come alive. The library’s museum rooms are located in the Bibliotheca Augusta and the Lessinghaus.

The next stop will be the “Volkswagenwerk” in Wolfsburg. Here you will be given a tour of the plant, followed by a visit to the Autostadt.

To visit the Autostadt is to journey into the world of mobility. To date, two million vehicles have been handed over at this, the world's largest car delivery centre. In addition, this extraordinary automobile theme and experiential park has become a favourite excursion destination for young and old alike. Not only because all things automobile are brought to life here, but also because of its emphasis on cultural events and its reputation as an extra-curricular place of learning. Situated in 28 hectares of parkland, architecture, design and nature provide the framework for its many and diverse attractions. Year-round attractions include the “ZeitHaus” museum, which is home to the classic cars that have left their mark on automobile history, eight pavilions which house VW’s various car brands, and the all-terrain track. Art and films stimulate discussion and interactive research stations invite participation.
